Key Benefits

of Service

In Northern climates, the best time to overseed your lawn is during the fall, when the soil is still warm but the air is cooler, and there are fewer weeds to compete against. On average, these climates have cold winters and warm to hot summers. Usually they also have regular intervals of rain throughout the summer months, but most grasses will tolerate some extended periods of drought by going dormant. Overseeding in spring is also okay if you have cool-season grasses. If you live in the South, the best time to overseed your lawn is late spring through mid-summer, since warm-season grasses need warmer soil temperatures to germinate. Good soil is critically important for growing a low maintenance lawn in this region. Most warm weather grasses will turn brown when cooler temperatures arrive

Maintenance Tips

Mow low, dethatch, and overseed
In order to prepare your lawn for an effective overseeding and provide the best lawn care possible, you’ll need to mow lower than usual, to the point here the grass sits right above the soil line. After the blades have been lowered, you’ll be able to loosen the top layer of soil and remove any debris, this is called dethatching. This allows the soil to be more accessible so the seeds can germinate. If dethatching isn’t effective, you may also need to aerate your lawn. Aeration will comb your grass and remove debris. It also loosens the soil so more nutrients, water, and air can reach the roots of the grass.
When overseeding, you need to match the seed type to the type of grass that is already growing. You can identify your grass type by examining the climate of your region, looking at the shape of the grass blades, feeling the texture of the grass, or take samples to your local home and garden store for help.
One of the strengths of power seeding grass is how efficient it is in getting results. Power seeding is best used when the overall condition of your lawn is looking thin, bare and over stressed. Power seeding may also be the best option in cases where weeds are rampant or animals and insects have damaged your lawn. Power seeding can quickly restore a thin damaged lawn to the thick, lush and healthy lawn you want and with the precise method being used, less grass seed is needed. As always, our lawn experts can help you decide what will be the best method for revitalizing your grass, and with our state-of-the-art Turf Tamer Power Seeder, we can get your lawn looking better and healthier very quickly.
